New groups vie to run Baltimore Grand Prix in 2012,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
The company remains entangled in lawsuits. Grant,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], president and CEO of Grant Capital Management, had been in discussions over the race but appears to have decided not to get involved,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sources say. Grant was a major donor to the campaign of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who has been a strong proponent of the race. Grant did not respond to a request for comment.
Sharon Grinnell, president of an Owings Mills-based contracting company,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], had been attempting to pull together a team to take over the race,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including a national racing group,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sources say.
Grinnell is the former chief operating officer of the Baltimore Development Corp.,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the city's quasi-public development arm,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and later served as vice president at Doracon. That company was headed by Ronald Lipscomb,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whose lavish gifts to his one-time girlfriend,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then-Mayor Sheila Dixon,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], led to her being charged with perjury for failing to report them on ethics forms.
Grinnell declined to comment Thursday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Others said they had attempted to capture the city's interest for months,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but gave up after receiving no response.
Charles "Chuck" Goldsborough said his group,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Metropolitan Racing Venues,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], had been attempting to set up a meeting with Parthemos since October,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but did not receive an answer.
Goldsborough,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a Baltimore resident and former racecar driver,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], said he had planned to partner with local business owners and Mark Perone and Tony Cottman,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who had organized IndyCar races in other cities.
