First Baptist Academy sixth grader organizes 5K race to collect shoes for Immokalee children Naples Daily News

But 11-year-old Ashleigh Baker isn't like most kids.
After reading the book "Take Your Best Shot: Do Something Bigger Than Yourself," by Austin Gutwein, Ashleigh,[url=http://duveticavestesfr.halod.com/][b]http://duveticavestesfr.halod.com/[/b][/url], a sixth grader at First Baptist Academy, was so inspired by its message that she decided to organize a 5K race to collect shoes for underprivileged children in Immokalee.
The race, Run For Immokalee 5K, is hosted by First Baptist Church Naples SportsOutreach and will take place Saturday, April 2, at 7:30 am at First Baptist Church Naples on Orange Blossom Drive. The registration fee is one new pair of children's shoes,[url=http://woolrichoutletde.albirank.net/][b]Woolrich Outlet[/b][/url], preferably in the pre-K to fifth grade range.
"The book talks about taking something you love and making a difference by using it," Ashleigh explains.

She saw the need for children's shoes during her many visits to Immokalee with Families in Kingdom Service, a nonprofit organization that her mother, Jinny Baker, co-founded seven years ago. The group consists of a dozen or so families who visit Immokalee several times a year to host Christmas parties, backyard bible events, Easter egg hunts and summertime vacation bible school.
"It's kind of sad because they run around barefoot most of the time…and there's glass everywhere," says the little girl with the big heart. She tells the story of one child who got glass in his foot while running. "He sat down, pulled it out of his foot, and kept on running," she says incredulously. Wise beyond her years, she concludes that the kids have just gotten used to going without.
